Carnival Row in Final Editing

cradr.png

According to actor Ryan Hayes‘s Instagram, who will play Constable Hatch in Andrew‘s upcoming fantasy-noir series Carnival Row, the Amazon Prime production is in its final stages! The actor was called in for an ADR (automated dialogue replacement) session which is usually done towards the end of the editing and post-production process.

Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne will star in the series that is scheduled to be released later this year.

With his roles in the upcoming final season of Poldark, Carnival Row and his guest appearance on Midsomer Murders, fans of Andrew Gower really have a lot to look forward to this year!

Is Carnival Row the new Game of Thrones?

Is Carnival Row the new Game of Thrones? WMagazine thinks so!

In their article, they make a strong case for it:

[U]nlike Thrones, Carnival Row will take place in a vaguely futuristic city (albeit with Victorian-era touches, in a steampunk sort of way), and instead of ongoing wars and battle scenes, it will instead take on the form of a neo-noir mystery. Still, there’s not only enough that appears to be in the show’s DNA (including magical creatures and scheming members of a ruling upper class) to hook Thrones fans, but a few familiar faces from the Thrones cast will appear as well (in addition to veterans of the Outlander, Star Trek, Star Wars, and Misfits franchises).

What is Carnival Row even about?

Essentially, it’s a fantasy series about the tensions of an immigration crisis.

It all takes place in the “neo-Victorian” city of Burgue, a city dominated by humans, but tensions emerge when magical creatures like elves and faeries start fleeing to the city as refugees once war breaks out in their homeland. As seems to be unfortunately natural to humans, they don’t react too kindly to the outsiders. To make matters worse, a bunch of the newly arrived faeries end up murdered, including at least one faerie showgirl in the part of the city known as the titular “Carnival Row.” Most of the humans don’t really seem to care until a lone detective decides to take up the case. [Orlando] Bloom plays that detective, named Rycroft Philostrate, while [Cara] Delevingne plays a faerie known as Vignette Stonemoss.[…]

Who else is in the cast?

Indira Varma [Ellaria Sand, Game of Thrones] plays Piety Breakspear, who is described as “the regal and cunning matriarch of the powerful family that rules the city of the Burgue.” […]

Misfits vet Karla Crome plays another faerie with a gift for poetry who is forced to work in a brothel to survive.

Our Andrew Gower gets a mention, too!

[…] Tamzin Merchant [Running Naked, Ark], the actress who was originally cast as Daenerys in Throne‘s ill-fated original pilot episode, also has a major role.

Merchant (Salem) and Andrew Gower (Outlander) play brother and sister Imogen and Ezra Spurnrose. They hail from a wealthy family that’s falling on tough times, so they enter a business deal with a “Puck” who has moved across the street. And, in a bit of a taboo move, Imogen may or may not be falling in love with that Puck.

Air Date for Poldark S5?

poldark-image-2.jpg

Because we all cannot wait to see the new season of Poldark – and Andrew Gower as James Hadfield! – we couldn’t help ourselves and here’s a little speculation!

Previously, we thought we might get S5 as soon as 9 June but that date seems unlikely now as the BFI screening is scheduled only 4 days earlier, on 5 June.

So where does that leave us with Poldark‘s new season?

From 19 May until 7 July, Poldark‘s usual time-slot on Sunday nights 9pm on BBC One is taken by new show Gentleman Jack. Which means Poldark could take over its rightful place on 14 July! A date just over a month after the exclusive BFI screening does seem likely. So let’s start the countdown till 14 July and hope for the best!

ETA: Fixed the number of episodes of Gentleman Jack and updated the speculated air date for Poldark.

Midsomer Murders Returns to ITV!

mm206_131crop.png

Thanks to the Radio Times we can now confirm that series 20 of British detective drama Midsomer Murders will return to ITV on Sunday 19 May 2019! ITV had previously only shown the first two episodes before giving the time slot to period drama Victoria.

Although only episode 3 “Drawing Dead” shows up on their website, it also says “episode 3 of 6”, so we’re hoping that there won’t be another hiatus and all four remaining episodes of S20, including Andrew‘s episode “Send in the Clowns” will be shown. He is joined by fellow Outlander alumni Annette Badland (series regular), Richard Rankin (“The Lions of Causton”) and Being Human‘s Jason Watkins (“Send in the Clowns”).

ETA: Midsomer Murders will actually go back on hiatus after only one episode is shown. It will be replaced by detective drama Vera on Sunday 26 May.

We’ll keep you updated when it returns.

The BFI (British Film Institute) has announced the date for a special screening event for the first episode of Poldark‘s fifth and final season. You will be able to see the episode and attend the following Q&A with confirmed guests Aidan Turner (Ross Poldark), Jack Farthing (George Warleggan), Luke Norris (Dwight Enys), Ellise Chappell (Morwenna Carne), and writer Debbie Horsfield.

The event itself takes place on Wednesday, 5 June 2019 at 6:15pm at BFI Southbank (Belvedere Road, South Bank, London SE1 8XT).

The description on the website reads as follows:

It’s a new century, but the past casts a long shadow over Cornwall, and when an old friend needs help, Ross is compelled to challenge the establishment and question his loyalties to king and country.

Is it just us or does this “old friend” sound like one James Hadfield (played by our Andrew Gower)? We sure hope so!

Andrew at Texas Gathering

This past weekend, Andrew Gower and Stephen Walters attended a private gathering of Outlander fans in Texas (USA). Despite it being a strictly private event, some attendees took to social media to share some moments of their time with the Liverpudlian actors.

Follow Andrew Gower Fans on Twitter or Instagram to see more pictures from the event!

Thanks to YouTube user Samantha Kraupner we can also share these videos with you. Andrew and Stephen treated the attendees with a special private concert at the event and performed some Beatles song plus “Do you Remember”, the song they wrote for their short film Humpty Fu*king Dumpty. Why did Midsomer Murders disappear from ITV – and when is it coming back?

1491501657-idsomer1.jpg.png

Unfortunately, not even DigitalSpy can answer these questions for sure. In their article they discuss the reasons why beloved British procedural Midsomer Murders disappeared so quickly after only two episodes of Series 20 aired in its home country.

Midsomer fans watching on ITV had already endured a lengthy wait before getting to enjoy the latest episodes: series 20 only launched in the UK in March of this year, but all six episodes have been available in the US through the streaming services Acorn TV and BritBox since May 2018.

British TV shows being released in the US first before being broadcast in the UK is not unprecedented: ITV’s Victoria, the show that coincidentally replaced Midsomer Murders on Sunday nights, was also shown stateside first. DigitalSpy also admits that the 10-month wait British Midsomer Murder fans had to suffer are “unusual”.

In a statement to Digital Spy, an ITV spokesperson said: “Each Midsomer Murders film is a self-contained story and consequently it gives us the flexibility to play as special episodes in the schedule rather than as a series.”

(Source: DigitalSpy)

ITV keeps quiet about when we might expect to see the remaining four episodes but Victoria’s series finale will air on 12 May which leaves the Sunday time slot open again. Unfortunately, this is no guarantee that we will get to Andrew‘s episode “Send in the Clowns” (the last in the series) anytime soon.
