Outlander 2×06 Best Laid Schemes

After the difficult decision they had to make at the end of the previous episode Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) are trying to find their way back to a normal married life. They must also find a way to stop the business transaction from happening that threatens to fill Prince Charles’ (Andrew Gower) war chest.

Using Claire’s medical knowledge they come up with a plan, and Jamie, Murtagh (Duncan Lacroix) and young Fergus (Romann Berrux) leave to execute it. Claire returns to L’Hôpital to continue her work there with Monsieur Forez (Niall Greig Fulton) who warns her about the consequences for “practitioners of the dark arts”.

Prince Charles is devastated when he learns about their failed undertaking. He feels all his efforts to restore the House of Stuart to the British throne have led to nothing. However, not only his life seems to be in ruins: Claire is in despair when she learns that Jamie has gone back on his promise with dire consequences for both their lives.

Outlander 2×05 Untimely Resurrections

Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) have to deal with the consequences of their dinner party. Mary (Rosie Day) is still recovering from her attack the night before but also hopeful that she is now free to marry her secret admirer Alex Randall (Laurence Dobiesz). A union that could prove fatal to Claire’s first husband Frank (Tobias Menzies).

At his warehouse, Jamie receives a visit from Prince Charles Edward (Andrew Gower) who has found a new business partner in the Comte St. Germain (Stanley Weber). The outcome of their business endeavour could easily be a turning point in the Prince’s goal to unite the Scottish clans and re-claim the British throne for his father.

The Frasers are invited to the gardens of Versailles by the French King Louis (Lionel Lingelser), and Jamie and Claire’s relationship is put to the ultimate test when a ghost from the past comes back to haunt them. Claire is forced to call in a favour that threatens to break them.

Outlander 2×04 La Dame Blanche

Jamie’s spirits are lifted after he learns that Black Jack Randall (Tobias Menzies) is still alive and he has a chance to take vengeance on his former torturer. Thus revigorated, he and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) are finally able to come together as a couple again, when they are disturbed by a nightly visitor.

It is none other than the rightful heir to the British throne, Prince Charles Edward Stuart (Andrew Gower). He had to flee from his lover’s house in a rather un-prince-ly fashion when her husband returned home earlier. From a monkey bite on his hand, Claire deducts that his lover must be her friend Louise de Rohan (Claire Sermonne).

Jamie and Claire decide to use his knowledge and the information Louise had confided in her earlier to expose the Prince as an untrustworthy fool in front of one of his potential financier, the Duke of Sandringham (Simon Callow), at a dinner party. Unfortunately, not the entire evening goes according to plan…

Outlander 2×03 Useful Occupations and Deceptions

While Jamie’s (Sam Heughan) days and nights are occupied with running his uncle Jared’s wine business, playing chess with Finance Minister Joseph Duverney (Marc Duret) and befriending Prince Charles Edward Stuart (Andrew Gower), his wife Claire (Caitriona Balfe) is bored with the life of a lady.

Having tea “with the ladies” – neighbour Louise de Rohan (Claire Sermonne) and young Mary Hawkins (Rosie Day) – makes Claire feel restless and useless, so when the opportunity presents itself, she is more than happy to offer her help at a local hospital, L’Hôpital des Anges, run by the formidable Mother Hildegard (Frances de la Tour).

Jamie finally manages to arrange the long desired meeting between Duverney and Prince Charles at Maison Elise. At first Duverney seems more interested in the female residents of the brothel when Charles surprises both Jamie and the Minister of Finance with news, that threaten to swat all of the Frasers’ plans.

Outlander 2×02 Not in Scotland Anymore

The historic-fiction drama Outlander is focused on time-travelling WW2 combat nurse Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe) and her 18th century Highland warrior husband Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan). In season 2 they are trying to change history and stop the Jacobite rising of 1745 and the devastating Battle of Cullodon from happening.

The Frasers have just arrived in Paris and are still settling into their new lives when Jamie receives a surprise invitation to meet Prince Charles Edward Stuart (Andrew Gower) in a rather unusual location. The Young Pretender to the British throne is in Paris to raise enough money to support an army.

However, this is easier said than done as the Bonnie Prince is “incognito” in France and can’t be received at court. He needs the help of someone who can negotiate on his behalf with the French Minister of Finance Joseph Duverney (Marc Duret) – and who would be better suited to the task than a loyal Scotsman like Jamie Fraser?

Black Work Ep. 01

BW01x24

Black Work 1×01

Black Work is a British three-part detective drama which centers around police officer Jo Gillespie (Sheridan Smith).

Jo Gillespie is dissatisfied that her husband Ryan (Kenny Doughty), like herself a police officer, spends so much time away from her and their children but resists colleague Jack Clark’s (Matthew McNulty) suggestion that she leaves Ryan for him.

She is doubly shocked to be told by Superintendent Hepburn (Douglas Henshall) not only that Ryan has been shot dead but had been working undercover – doing ‘black work’ – for three years without her knowledge. Most of the gang he was infiltrating have been arrested but Hepburn and Chief Constable Carolyn Jarecki (Geraldine James) are anxious not to publicize Ryan’s murder lest it damage the prosecution and are puzzled as to why Ryan had not reported back to his handler for some days before his death.

Jo is incensed by their attitude and tells his mother Barbara (Sharon Duce) who leaks his murder to the press. Believing she has a clue to the killer Jo tells Jack but follows up her enquiry alone, landing herself in danger. *

Andrew Gower plays DC Jared Ansell, a member of the taskforce, who investigate the murder of Ryan Gillespie. He appears in the first and last episode of the series.

AD09x073

A.D. – The Bible Continues Ep. 9 “Saul’s Return”

Following his ascent to the Roman throne, Caligula (Andrew Gower) starts a reign of terror over those in his immediate vicinity. Feeling that he isn’t given the appropriate respect and love from his subjects, he demands that statues of him are erected all over the Roman empire, including one inside the Temple of Jerusalem.

Pilate (Vincent Regan) and the High Priest Caiaphas (Richard Coyle) know that such a desecration will cause a riot among the Jewish population, and that they need to work together to avoid bloodshed. However, there are also some among the former political leaders of Jerusalem that see a chance to restore the old order of things after the looming rebellion.

Saul (Emmett J Scanlan) returns to Jerusalem a changed man but is met with suspicion among the disciples who used to be his enemies. He needs to convince them of his miraculously changed intentions as well as leave hiding and start preaching Jesus’ words. While he and Peter (Adam Levy) come to an understanding, the disciples learn from Mary Magdalene (Chipo Chung) about the arrival of Caligula’s statue.
