Outlander 2×11 Vengeance is Mine

The Jacobite army is camped in Northern England, only 5 days away from London, awaiting decisions from Prince Charles Edward (Andrew Gower) and his generals whether to march on or return back north. When the decision is made, Jamie (Sam Heughan) and his men are ordered to lead the way to Inverness.

On their way, they are ambushed by governement troops and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) is separated from the rest. She’s taken to the house of an English nobleman who turns out to be none other than the notorious Duke of Sandringham (Simon Callow). At his estate she is also re-united with Mary Hawkins (Rosie Day), the young woman who had been attacked in Paris.

While waiting for Jamie to rescue her, Claire finds out some unpleasant truths about the Duke of Sandringham and his valet, and Murtagh (Duncan Lacroix) is finally able to keep a vow he gave to Jamie a long time ago.

Outlander 2×10 Prestonpans

The Highlander army has arrived at Prestonpans and are at an impasse with the British. The Bonnie Prince’s (Andrew Gower) generals are fighting with each other about how to proceed while the men are getting restless waiting for new orders. The War Chieftain of Clan MacKenzie, Dougal MacKenzie (Graham McTavish) is eager to impress the Prince and volunteers to undertake a potentially suicidal mission.

Thanks to Claire’s (Caitriona Balfe) knowledge about the past, Jamie (Sam Heughan) is aware of the importance of the upcoming battle and encourages the Prince to take action when the opportunity presents itself. Claire uses her previous experience as a WW2 combat nurse to organize the treatment of wounded soldiers during and after the battle.

“History” keeps its promise of a Jacobite victory, but not all Highlanders make it out unharmed. While some simply fall from grace, others will have to pay the ultimate price.

Access Hollywood released an interview with Graham McTavish (Dougal McKenzie) and Andrew Gower (Bonnie Prince Charlie) about Outlander episode 2×10 “Prestonpans“.

Graham McTavish was full of praise for his co-star’s acting:

“One of the things that I loved about what Andrew did with the part was how he physically created the Prince,” Graham said, when we asked him about working with the Season 2 “Outlander” actor. […] [Andrew] made some really great [acting] choices with that.”

The article also mentions Andrew’s ongoing rehearsals for 1984 in London’s West End.

Access Hollywood conducted a Q&A with Andrew Gower about his role as Prince Charles Edward Stuart on Starz’ hit TV show Outlander.

Andrew (who Sam Heughan has praised, calling him “magnificent in the role”) hit the books before slipping on the salmon-colored silk coat of his “Outlander” character, diving deeply into the details, all the way down to the accent. In a new interview, he told Access Hollywood more about his preparation for the role, and offered insight into his character’s tearful reaction after the loss of the cargo in Saturday night’s episode.

Outlander 2×06 Best Laid Schemes

After the difficult decision they had to make at the end of the previous episode Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) are trying to find their way back to a normal married life. They must also find a way to stop the business transaction from happening that threatens to fill Prince Charles’ (Andrew Gower) war chest.

Using Claire’s medical knowledge they come up with a plan, and Jamie, Murtagh (Duncan Lacroix) and young Fergus (Romann Berrux) leave to execute it. Claire returns to L’Hôpital to continue her work there with Monsieur Forez (Niall Greig Fulton) who warns her about the consequences for “practitioners of the dark arts”.

Prince Charles is devastated when he learns about their failed undertaking. He feels all his efforts to restore the House of Stuart to the British throne have led to nothing. However, not only his life seems to be in ruins: Claire is in despair when she learns that Jamie has gone back on his promise with dire consequences for both their lives.

Outlander 2×05 Untimely Resurrections

Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) have to deal with the consequences of their dinner party. Mary (Rosie Day) is still recovering from her attack the night before but also hopeful that she is now free to marry her secret admirer Alex Randall (Laurence Dobiesz). A union that could prove fatal to Claire’s first husband Frank (Tobias Menzies).

At his warehouse, Jamie receives a visit from Prince Charles Edward (Andrew Gower) who has found a new business partner in the Comte St. Germain (Stanley Weber). The outcome of their business endeavour could easily be a turning point in the Prince’s goal to unite the Scottish clans and re-claim the British throne for his father.

The Frasers are invited to the gardens of Versailles by the French King Louis (Lionel Lingelser), and Jamie and Claire’s relationship is put to the ultimate test when a ghost from the past comes back to haunt them. Claire is forced to call in a favour that threatens to break them.

Outlander 2×04 La Dame Blanche

Jamie’s spirits are lifted after he learns that Black Jack Randall (Tobias Menzies) is still alive and he has a chance to take vengeance on his former torturer. Thus revigorated, he and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) are finally able to come together as a couple again, when they are disturbed by a nightly visitor.

It is none other than the rightful heir to the British throne, Prince Charles Edward Stuart (Andrew Gower). He had to flee from his lover’s house in a rather un-prince-ly fashion when her husband returned home earlier. From a monkey bite on his hand, Claire deducts that his lover must be her friend Louise de Rohan (Claire Sermonne).

Jamie and Claire decide to use his knowledge and the information Louise had confided in her earlier to expose the Prince as an untrustworthy fool in front of one of his potential financier, the Duke of Sandringham (Simon Callow), at a dinner party. Unfortunately, not the entire evening goes according to plan…

Outlander 2×03 Useful Occupations and Deceptions

While Jamie’s (Sam Heughan) days and nights are occupied with running his uncle Jared’s wine business, playing chess with Finance Minister Joseph Duverney (Marc Duret) and befriending Prince Charles Edward Stuart (Andrew Gower), his wife Claire (Caitriona Balfe) is bored with the life of a lady.

Having tea “with the ladies” – neighbour Louise de Rohan (Claire Sermonne) and young Mary Hawkins (Rosie Day) – makes Claire feel restless and useless, so when the opportunity presents itself, she is more than happy to offer her help at a local hospital, L’Hôpital des Anges, run by the formidable Mother Hildegard (Frances de la Tour).

Jamie finally manages to arrange the long desired meeting between Duverney and Prince Charles at Maison Elise. At first Duverney seems more interested in the female residents of the brothel when Charles surprises both Jamie and the Minister of Finance with news, that threaten to swat all of the Frasers’ plans.
