Carnival Row: International Press

Orlando-Bloom_1538733155851380_v0_h

The Austrian online paper “Kleine Zeitung” also reported about the “Amazon Prime Presents” event at the Curzon Mayfair Cinema in London this week (English summary below):

This summary was done by the author of this blog post. Please keep in mind that the quotes have been translated from English to German and then back to English, so we can’t guarantee 100% accuracy:

Carnival Row is set in a magical world where mythical creature have to leave their home, and it also includes a murder mystery.

Cara Delevingne sees a paralell between fiction and reality and says it was important to her that the show addresses social and political themes. “Immigration is omnipresent and we meed to discuss it.”
She also sees her character, a fairy, as some kind of “recommendation” for humanity: “It’s a people who only take from nature what they need but they also give back. She’s also a survivor, she keeps fighting no matter what is taken away from her.”

Orlando Bloom adds that with this fantasy world you get to take a look at our society from the outside. “Within this framework, we can address bigger questions” and “Carnival Row is unlike anything I’ve read before.”

For both actors it was the first time working on a multi-episode show and they enjoyed working with four different directors. Orlando Bloom liked the flexibility and calls it an advantage but also a challenge to access the story with a new perspective with each director. He was particularly impressed by the film sets in Prague, especially the attention to detail. “It’s a sign which greatness the show is goingt to achieve.”

Der Tagesspiegel” also features an article about the event but Carnival Row only gets a brief mention.

Amazon Prime Video Presents: Carnival Row

On 2 October 2018 Amazon Prime Video presented some of their new and recurring shows to the press and invited guests in London, among them Andrew’s new show Carnival Row.

We have no indication that Andrew attended the event but lead actors Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne spoke about the show, which is scheduled to be released in 2019.

According to Cara Delevingne, Carnival Row addresses “social and political themes. Immigration, classism and racism, important themes that need to be addressed more and more. It’s fantasy that we have never seen before”. She added: “The part I play has so much fire… Other characters and the story relate to what is happening in the world right now.”

The series follows an investigation into a string of unsolved murders that are eating away at whatever uneasy peace still exists. Orlando [Bloom] is playing Rycroft Philostrate, a police inspector, and Delevingne will be seen as a faerish refugee who flees her homeland to come to the Burgue.

About her character Vignette Stonemoss, “a fairy fleeing persecution”, Cara Delevingne said: “She is a survivor. She has been a victim but doesn’t know what is she surviving for now. Everything has been taken away from her. Her culture and her family.”

Her co-star Orlando Bloom  described the show as a “sort of Dickensian, steam-punk, Victorian world with these remarkable and beautiful mythical creatures”, and added: “When I got to Prague and saw the set they had built I was blown away, it was truly remarkable.”

Head of comedy at Amazon Joe Lewis said in a statement:

There has never been a series like Carnival Row before.

The scope of the storytelling combined with the uniqueness of the world, themes and aesthetics haven’t been on TV before.

A simple police investigation will lead us down a remarkable journey in a world where humans and creatures co-exist. We’re so excited about what René [Echevarria], Travis [Beacham] and Paul [McGuigan] are creating and we can’t wait to bring it to customers.

The show is certainly creating a lot of buzz already and we cannot wait to see more!

Gallery updated with Urchin screencaps

The Tall Tale of Urchin is a fine example of Andrew Gower’s voice acting work.

We think there’s definitely a likeness between Andrew and his animated character Mudlark (and he makes such an adorable merboy!) that we couldn’t resist screencapping this wonderful animated short film by Hamish Steele.

Visit our gallery to see all screencaps!

Thank you for Participating!

Fear the Lord: Trailer Coming Soon?

fearthelord_ksheader

Writer / director Leoni Tenius (Blessed are They that Fear the Lord) replied to a question to her Instagram post where she shared a “Behind the Scenes” shot from the Fear the Lord set last year.

So let’s hope the trailer will be out very soon!

Leoni Tenius is also involved in a new IndieGoGo project called Neext! You can follow Neext! on Facebook and Twitter, and there’s still time to support the crowdfunding as well. Her mini bio includes an excited bit of news for Fear the Lord:

Leoni Tenius is a director from Berlin. Following up to 5 years in the German film industry as an actress she went on to study at the Met Film School London where she graduated with First Honours in Practical Filmmaking. Leoni has won the Zoom Award for the Best International Film for her first short film Kriegskind (Child of War), as well as the Imagining the Imaginarium Competition chaired by Andy Serkis and since then has directed and edited several live action and motion capture short films with Serkis’ The Imaginarium Studios. Her last short [Blessed are They that Fear the Lord] starring BAFTA winner Sophie Kennedy Clark is currently in development for a feature.

We’re really hoping that Fear the Lord can get the funding to be turned into a full feature length film, and that Andrew Gower can reprise his role as James O’Harry.
