After Ned Despard’s (Vincent Regan) release from prison, Ross (Aidan Turner) must now help him restore his good name and have him reinstated as Superintendent of British Honduras. Demelza (Eleanor Tomlinson) and the children have come to London and together with Ned’s wife Kitty (Kerri McLean) tries to support their husbands.
Back in Cornwall, Prudie (Beatie Edney) has her hands full with ambitious new farm hand Tess (Sofia Oxenham), Morwenna (Ellise Chappell) and Drake Carne (Harry Richardson) make slow progress finding some intimacy in their married life while young Valentine (Woody Norman) feels neglected after his mother’s death and the arrival of new baby Ursula.
Dr Enys (Luke Norris) gives his talk about insanity at the Royal College of Surgeons and his words are met with doubt and disapproval. Only one man in the audience shows genuine interest, who introduces himself as Thomas Erskine (Peter Forbes), James Hadfield‘s (Andrew Gower) lawyer. He convinces Dr Enys to testify on Hadfield’s behalf at court to save him from being executed for treason.
