Andrew Gower Talks Music, Carnival Row and YOU

Andrew Gower spoke to Erin Tatum from Cliché Mag about Carnival Row (Prime Video) and YOU (Netflix) – whose new seasons have recently been released and both feature Andrew Gower – as well as his band Gustaffson and what the future holds for them.

Season two for Ezra is all about his search for his own truth and family justice. Without his sister in the Burgue, he has a purposeless existence and he’ll do anything to get her back. His unrealistic Victorian etiquette standards are tested more than ever. He has enormous fears of becoming the thing he hates most.

Andrew Gower about his character’s journey in Season 2 of Carnival Row

The dark psychology of this series is definitely what draws the audience in. It’s a very trendy genre right now! My character – Detective Peter Andrew – is on the hunt for a London serial killer throughout this new series. So I was keen to play against the psychology of Joe (Penn Badgley).

Andrew Gower on YOU

The next step for us as an unsigned band would be to make our first album. We’ve written so many new songs and have some incredible people to collaborate with so it’s all about finding a home for GUSTAFFSON to do that. In the meantime, we are recording a selection of live videos for some of our new tracks. We’re collaborating with some amazing music producers and film directors. It’s an exciting way to combine both my filming and music passions. There’s nothing better than being back in the studio with the band. It has very quickly become my happy place!

You (Netflix) 4×03 Eat the Rich

Everyone’s favourite obsessive stalker and serial killer Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) – in Netflix’s hit series YOU – has found a new home and identity in London after the events of Season 3 that saw him kill his wife Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti), setting their house on fire, faking his own death and dumping his infant son at friends, in order to find his “true love” Marienne Bellamy (Tati Gabrielle) in Europe.

In London he works as a university professor teaching American literature and going by the name Jonathan Moore. He also gets drawn into a group of young, super rich socialites. Life could be good but soon his past catches up with him and so he wakes up after a drunken night to find the body of one of his co-workers – Malcom (Stephen Hagan) – stabbed to death on his kitchen table.

Joe gets rid of the body but soon learns that there’s another murderous stalker on the lose – and this time Joe and his new circle of friends are the target. Desperately trying to protect his neighbour Kate (Charlotte Ritchie), Joe suddenly finds himself in the middle of a classic “whodunnit” when two police officers, Detectives Monifa Sunday (Rhoda Ofori-Attah) and Peter Andrews (Andrew Gower) come knocking at his door.

You (Netflix) Season 4 Part 1 Trailer

Andrew Gower joined the cast of the hit Netflix series YOU last year and we’ve now been treated with a trailer for Part 1.

YOU centres around New York bookstore manager Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley), on the outside an unassuming guy, who politely helps an elderly lady with her luggage and takes care of his neighbour’s son, when she fights with her abusive partner. On the inside his thoughts betray him and the extreme obsessions that he develops for several women throughout the series. He is willing to remove any obstacle (including murdering friends and ex-boyfriends) that might be in the way of reaching his goal to make these women fall in love with him.

After the events of Season 3, Joe is forced to flee to Europe and adopt a new identy. He is now Jonathan Moore, a professor at a London university, set to leave his “messy” part behind, start a new life and finally find “true love”.

The new trailer, released exactly a month before Part 1 of the new season hits our screens, shows that things don’t go quite as planned on the “European holiday”: Joe finds himself in the strange new role of reluctant detective in a murder mystery and seems to have gained a stalker of his own.

Another new addition to the cast of YOU is Ed Speleers, who Outlander fans will remember well from his portrayal of Irish pirate Stephen Bonnet. On YOU he portrays Ryhs, a member of Joe’s new friend group of “uber-wealthy socialites.”

Not much is known so far about Andrew Gower‘s part except that he’ll play a police officer called Detective Peter Andrews. Previous speculation saw Detective Andrews as some kind of antagonist to Joe Goldberg. Now it seems possible that he’s part of the force that investigates the other killer roaming London. We cannot wait to see Andrew Gower in this new role!

YOU Season 4 will be split in two parts which will be made available a month apart – on 9 February and 9 March 2023 – exclusively on Netflix (worldwide).

You S4: Trailer & Release Date

Netflix teased the return of its hit series You with a first look at the new season and a release date.

Season 4 will be split into two parts which will be made available for streaming on 10 Februar and 10 March 2023 respectively.

The new episodes will see a return of charming serial killer Joe Goldberg, who now lives in London as Professor Jonathan Moore. The trailer shows us some familiar and some new faces, among them Outlander alumni Ed Speleers.

Andrew Gower is still missing from this first teaser trailer but we know he will appear in the upcoming season playing Detective Peter Andrews, possibly a police officer investigating Joe.

Outlander prequel: Star weighs in on possible Bonnie Prince Charlie series

Variety reported exclusively on 25 February 2022 that an Outlander prequel series is in development at Starz. Exact plot details are so far kept under wraps and open for speculation.

Fans of the show have been hoping for a spin-off centered around popular character Lord John Grey (played by Australian actor David Berry). When the audience meets (John) William Grey for the first time during the Jacobite Rising of 1745 (Season 2), he is only 15 years old and played by young English actor Oscar Kennedy. This seems to rule out his story for a prequel series although there is plenty of source material in the form of Diana Gabaldon’s LJG novellas and short stories.

In 2013, Gabaldon also published the novella Virgins with a young Jamie Fraser and best friend Ian Murray (aged 19 and 20 respectively) serving as mercenaries in 1740’s France. Given the popularity of both characters, this certainly seems like an option, even though actors Sam Heughan and Steven Cree (both born in 1980) might not be able to reprise their roles for this potential prequel.

Still a work in progress is a novel about Jamie Fraser’s parents, Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser. Their wild love story would be set in early 18th century Scotland and could touch on the First Jacobite Rising of 1715. This sounds like the most plausible choice as it would feature a lot of the elements that made Outlander such a hit in the first place.

Bonnie Prince Charlie (Andrew Gower) and Flora MacDonald (Shauna MacDonald) in S6 of Outlander

After the recent #BonnieComeback, the Daily Express also talked exclusively with Andrew Gower about the possibility of a prequel series focusing on a young Bonnie Prince Charlie.

Would I be interested in a Bonnie Prince Charlie prequel? I mean, I went back for season six, so I would work with those guys. I would work with that team at the drop of a hat. They’re an amazing team.

The interesting thing about Bonnie Prince Charlie – maybe I’m getting too old to play him – who knows? To play him at the beginning… but ultimately his life story is fascinating.

If they don’t do a story about him then I’m pretty sure there will be another film or something soon. Because I had such fun playing him and so many different ways I could have played him and so many different parts of his life you can look at.

Whether a Bonnie Prince Charlie prequel series is also on the cards remains to be seen, but Gower is now busy with a whole host of other projects.
