Carnival Row 2×06 Original Sins

Carnival Row 2×06 Original Sins

Imogen (Tamzin Merchant) and Agreus (David Gyasi) argue about life in Ragusa: Imogen claims she’s happy living under the New Dawn rule and Agreus reluctantly promises to make an effort for her sake. However, after Kastor (George Georgiou) invites them to a party in the evening, the two lovers have a private moment and their true plans are revealed: they intend to escape by hiding in a supply ship which leaves that night.

When Agreus is summoned to New Dawn leader Leonora (Joanne Whalley), he is surprised to see Imogen’s brother Ezra (Andrew Gower), bound and blind-folded. Leonora hands Agreus a gun and leaves him with the decision to kill his brother-in-law or let him live.

In a flashback to the war in Tirnanoc, we meet the kind of creatures who are currently terrorizing The Burgue: Sparas are shape-shifters that are supposed to be extinct for centuries. One of them saves Philo’s (Orlando Bloom) life but later he is ordered to destroy their valley. In the present, Dombey (Jamie Harris) and Berwick seek Philo’s help to find the Sparas who they suspect to be behind all recent killings.

Vignette (Cara Delevingne) is shocked about Tourmaline’s (Karla Crome) visions and tries to persuade her former lover to run away with her. When Kaine (Jay Ali) and Phaedra (Eve Ponsonby) try to convince her to re-join the Black Raven, Vignette must make a decision.

Carnival Row 2×04 An Unkindness of Ravens

Carnival Row 2×04 An Unkindness of Ravens

Mr Agreus (David Gyasi) and Imogen (Tamzin Merchant) start their life in Ragusa where they are told by block leader Kastor (George Georgiou) that everyone is required to work in an arms factory. After a day’s hard labour, Imogen bonds with Leonora (Joanne Whalley) over the fact they’re both in interspecies relationships and Leonora warns Imogen that Agreus’ life is in danger.

In the evening, Agreus makes a disturbing discovery: a woman, he had met in the morning outside their room, is suddenly gone but Kastor pretends she never existed. Meanwhile Leonora greets a newcomer to Ragusa: Ezra Spurnrose (Andrew Gower) has come with information about the arms deal between The Burgue and The Pact.

Back in the Burgue, Philo (Orlando Bloom) and Darius (Ariyon Bakare) visit Sergeant Dombey (Jamie Harris) at home to warn him about an imminent attack on his life by members of the Black Raven. Dombey manages to escape the ambush led by Vignette (Cara Delevingne) but during the subsequent fight the police arrive and Philo is arrested while the remaining fae fly away,

Carnival Row 2×03 The Martyr’s Hand

Carnival Row 2×03 The Martyr’s Hand

The police, especially Sergeant Domboy (Jamie Harris), have little interest in investigating the death of the two members of the Black Raven, so Philo (Orlando Bloom) decides to once again take matter into his own hands. With the help of Tourmaline (Karla Crome), who confided in him about her visions, and Constable Berwick (Waj Ali), he finds the decapitated bodies of the murdered fae.

Chancellor Jonah Breakspear (Arty Froushan) is forced to partially re-open Carnival Row to allow the Fae to return to work in the factories, so The Burgue can deliver the promised weapons to The Pact. Meanwhile the leader of the opposition Sophie Longerbane (Caroline Ford) makes a visit to Row bringing food, medicine – and the press – to the suffering fae.

Ezra Spurnrose’s (Andrew Gower) life continues to crumble: while one piece of furniture after the other is removed from the house to pay for his debts, he is visited by the Pembroke siblings, Leonid (Ross Green) and Louisa (Issy Stewart), who are curious about the latest gossip at Finistere Crossing: Was Imogen (Tamzin Merchant) really forcefully kidnapped by the puck Agreus (David Gyasi) – or did they elope?

Desperate to find out more about his sister’s whereabouts, Ezra corners Agreus’ former manservant Fergus (Jim High) in a dark alley. He claims that he needs to find his sister to make amends with her as she’s the only family he has left in the world. Fergus reluctantly believes him and tells Ezra that Imogen and Agreus were last seen in Ragusa.

Andrew Gower Talks Music, Carnival Row and YOU

Andrew Gower spoke to Erin Tatum from Cliché Mag about Carnival Row (Prime Video) and YOU (Netflix) – whose new seasons have recently been released and both feature Andrew Gower – as well as his band Gustaffson and what the future holds for them.

Season two for Ezra is all about his search for his own truth and family justice. Without his sister in the Burgue, he has a purposeless existence and he’ll do anything to get her back. His unrealistic Victorian etiquette standards are tested more than ever. He has enormous fears of becoming the thing he hates most.

Andrew Gower about his character’s journey in Season 2 of Carnival Row

The dark psychology of this series is definitely what draws the audience in. It’s a very trendy genre right now! My character – Detective Peter Andrew – is on the hunt for a London serial killer throughout this new series. So I was keen to play against the psychology of Joe (Penn Badgley).

Andrew Gower on YOU

The next step for us as an unsigned band would be to make our first album. We’ve written so many new songs and have some incredible people to collaborate with so it’s all about finding a home for GUSTAFFSON to do that. In the meantime, we are recording a selection of live videos for some of our new tracks. We’re collaborating with some amazing music producers and film directors. It’s an exciting way to combine both my filming and music passions. There’s nothing better than being back in the studio with the band. It has very quickly become my happy place!

Carnival Row mirrors real-world troubles (David Gyasi, Tamzin Merchant, Andrew Gower)

Ezra (Andrew Gower), Imogen (Tamzin Merchant) & Agreus (David Gyasi)

Karen Butler (UPI) spoke to Andrew Gower about Season 2 of Carnival Row and what he loves about the fantasy noir series.

The great thing about this series is it may tap into whatever is going on in the world. It may tap into how people are feeling, the fear of the other, whatever the other is. But, ultimately, it is in a digestible, entertaining way, which is what I love about fantasy.

Season 2’s artist palette has definitely added a load more colors in there, maybe some darker colors, which is always fun to explore,”

“We definitely get to see more of the history of these characters and a lot of Season 1 is explained.”

Carnival Row 2×02 New Dawn

Carnival Row 2×02 New Dawn

Imogen (Tamzin Merchant) and Agreus (David Gyasi) are taken to a city named Ragusa which was formerly under Pact authoritiy and at war with The Burgue. Now it is under the control of New Dawn, a socialist and revolutionary movement slowly taking over Pact territories. The two lovers are forcefully separated: Imogen is brought to a house, where she meets Leonora (Joanne Whalley), a faun with a broken, while Agreus finds himself in front of a firing squad executing his crew.

The Pact are now seeking military help against New Dawn, which are not only a thread to The Pact but the Burghish society as well. Chancellor Jonah Breakspear (Arty Froushan) under Sophie Longerbane’s (Caroline Ford) influence pledges support and throws a lavish dinner party for the Pact’s delegates with Ezra Spurnrose (Andrew Gower) attending the festivities. Ezra is met with concerned questions about his sister which he deflects by claiming she was abducted by pucks and the police are looking for her.

Philo (Orlando Bloom) hopes to destroy the Chancellor’s reputation and end the lockdown on Carnival Row by revealing himself as Absalom Breakspear’s (Jared Harris) true (and half-fae) oldest son. With the help of Runyan Millworthy (Simon McBurney) he is smuggled into the great hall where the banquet is about to start. However, he is interrupted by a group of Black Raven crushing through the glass ceiling of the great hall. Vignette (Cara Delevingne) has developed her own plan to confront the Burgue’s elite with her people’s suffering.

Carnival Row 2×01 Fight or Flight

Carnival Row 2×01 Fight or Flight

The fae folk are suffering under the new Chancellor Jonah Breakspear’s (Arty Froushan) imposed incarceration of the residents of Carnival Row. Due to the flying ban, many of them succumb to an uncurable desease. To ease their pain,Vignette (Cara Delevingne) and the Black Raven go on a dangerous mission to steal medicine from a supply train. Meanwhile Philo (Orlando Bloom) takes part in an illegal underground fight club to gain mysterious favor from the ringleader.

The next day Ezra Spurnrose (Andrew Gower) is part of the crowd watching the public execution of some fauns who are wrongly accused of the assassination of Absalom (Jared Harris) and Piety Breakspear (Indira Varma). His sister Imogen (Tamzin Merchant) is still on the run with her Puck lover Agreus (David Gyasi). Outwardly still happily in love, Imogen is plagued by nightmares of her brother while Agreus grows increasingly tired of hiding. Their honeymoon bliss is further disturbed when a mysterious airship attacks their boat.

Tourmaline Larou (Karla Crome), former poet laureate, Vignette’s ex-lover and employee at the brothel on Carnival Row, is having visions of the murdered Haruspex Aoife Tsigani (Alice Krige) and the future, which turn out to be true, when Philo is called to a crime scene by Constable Berwick (Waj Ali). Despite no longer working for the police and the prejudice Philo faces for being half-fae, Berwick seeks his help to solve the brutal homicide of a soldier stationed on the supply train robbed by the Black Raven.
